Fire Classes Applicable to Water + AFFF Extinguishers:

Class A : Fire involving any material that leaves embers or ashes. The ideal method for extinguishing a Class A fire is by removing the heat. Water is the most common agent, but others such as chemical powder, halon, halogenated agents, and foam can be used effectively. Examples: Paper, textiles, PVC, among others.

Class B : Fire involving flammable liquid. A variety of extinguishing agents are used for fires involving flammable liquids, depending on the circumstances. Flammable liquids do not ignite in their liquid state. It is the vapors generated by them that ignite. Examples: Gasoline, oil, grease, alcohol, solvents, among others.

Class F : In the case of fires involving cooking products, such as vegetable or animal oils and fats (Class F fires), the most appropriate fire extinguishers are those that use a wet chemical extinguishing agent, a solution of water and potassium acetate that transforms cooking oils and fats into a soapy substance. Examples: Vegetable or animal oils and fats, among others.

Ensuring the safety of your home, business, or office starts with the right fire extinguishers . Learn about the main types of fire extinguishers and in what situations they should be used:

  • ABF water extinguisher: suitable for class A fires (solid materials such as wood, paper and fabrics). Do not use on electrical fires.
  • ABC dry chemical powder fire extinguisher: versatile, for class A, B and C fires (solids, flammable liquids and gases). Ideal for domestic and industrial use.
  • CO₂ (carbon dioxide) fire extinguisher: recommended for class B fires and electrical equipment, leaving no residue.
